On the Other Half of the Mouse

Blog

By Shawn Boonstra

I found myself trying to imagine what had led to such a horrible fate. Had the mouse been attacked by a neighborhood cat? Maybe. But it seemed very strange to me that the cat would leave half a mouse behind. Perhaps the unlucky rodent had been tragically bisected by the wheel of a passing car or bike. I looked around in vain for the rest of the mouse; it was nowhere to be seen.

The Greatest Last Place Finish

As I reflect upon this story, I am reminded of a historical description of a meeting of church leaders following a time of persecution during the Dark Ages. The circle of Christian leaders consisted of men with missing arms or other appendages. Scars were etched on some of their faces or bodies from brutal torture. Each of these men could have escaped the torture and disfigured bodies. All they had to do was to recant just a little—just enough for the council to give them a pass. Or they could have gone off into the hills and found a cave or lonely place in which to hide.

Lorraine has lived a life of service, and at the age of 95, her memories and her wit are as clear as they were half a century ago.

I recently sat down with Lorraine and talked to her about her time of service right here at the Voice of Prophecy where she served as secretary to this ministry's founder, H.M.S. Richards, Sr. Listen to our conversation, and see if you catch her "prescription" for staying spiritually strong and mentally young all these years!

An Underground Obsession

I have dug up the ground behind a number of houses here in North America for various reasons, and I have never found any lingering remnants of antiquity. I didn't expect to find anything, either: such finds are rare in North America and if they are found, they tend to be unearthed on the East Coast where a rather surprising number of Europeans seem to have landed well in advance of Columbus.

I Will Set My Bow in the Clouds

Approximately midway through the earth’s second millennia, sin had so permeated human existence that God lamented making man. "Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart." (Genesis 6:4-6) In an unprecedented¹, desperate move to salvage a world gone mad, God decided to destroy His creation.

I recently sat down with Pastor David Franklin, lead pastor of the Miracle City Church in Baltimore, Maryland, and talked with him about his church's unique ministry outreach program. On January 30, his church launched a service campaign with an inspired goal: to reach 100,000 people in the city of Baltimore before the end of the year! Listen below to what Pastor David shared with me about this outreach to the challenged parts of his community.

During the long winter nights, I was able to pull in an astonishing array of radio stations from all over the place, even though we lived a considerable distance away. (And in Canada, "considerable" distances are formidable.)
